Favorite Memory as Miss South Central: Favorite memory as Miss South Central: "I was at Steps of Hope, an Autism Society of Minnesota awareness walk. I had just spoken at the podium, and the walk had started. My Miss South Central booth was all set up, and I looked up to see a group of girls walking along the path. I could tell they were from a high school because they all had Letterman's jackets on, so I asked them where they were from. Turns out, they were from Northfield, where I go to college! It ended in hugs all around, a group photo, and an exchange of contact information. They called themselves the Girls' Group, a group for both neuro-typical high school girls and girls with Autism. They had received a grant from Steps of Hope to help run their program. The Girls’ Group is nothing less than amazing. They meet monthly to do fun activities together, and they invited me to their last meeting of the season to scrapbook. They each made a page with pictures of fun activities they had done during the year. They even had photos from Steps of Hope ready so that I could make my own page. And of course, we had to take more pictures! The night ended in a cheer off, with me “crowning” every person in the room. Their crowning moments are all scrapbooked now! This may be one of my favorite events from my year. Seeing how this group of girls had bonded and supported each other truly touched my heart."

Natalie was the 2nd runner up to Miss MN 2009 and a Quality of Life finalist!  We are very proud of all of her accomplishments!

 2006 Jennifer Hudspeth

Platform: Understanding Autism: Turning Disabilities into Possibilities

Talent: Vocal

Favorite Memory as Miss South Central: My favorite part of my year was promoting my platform. I had the opportunity to speak with several MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) groups about the signs and symptoms of autism. It is especially crucial they have access to information about autism because it is usually diagnosed around the ages of 3 or4. I loved being a resource for them to turn to.

Jennifer was a non-finalist talent winner at Miss Minnesoata as Miss South Central.  She went on to become Miss Mankato where she captured the title of Miss Minnesota 2007!  Congratulations Jenn!!  We are proud to announce that Jenn was a Quality of Life Finalist at Miss America 2008!

     2005 Rachel Matheson

Platform: Working Together: Whole Body Wellness

Talent: Vocal

Favorite Memory as Miss South Central: I have too many favorite memories of my time as Miss SC, but mostly, I recall driving from Mpls to Waseca EVERY Friday for interview practice and talent practice at a church there. I remember Kim Tischer and I having many deep discussions about life...they changed my life.

I fondly remember taking a trip to Kansas City with Luke and Rochelle to find the gown of my dreams...the gown that would be ready for the Miss America stage. I remember all of the shopping trips and all of the ridiculous "fashion forward" outfits we squeezed me into and laughed at.

Most of all, I remember the times with my committee and feeling like they REALLY cared about my success as a woman, beyond pageantry.

I also remember the kids at Waseca elementary asking me, "Is the crown made of REAL diamonds?" Kids are so sweet.

Rachel was the first runner up to Miss Minnesota as Miss South Central, and went on to capture the Miss North Dakota USA 2007 title!

2004 Jennifer Hilde-Gerth

Platform: Character Commitment

Talent: Violin

Favorite Memory as Miss South Central: My favorite memory as Miss South Central was orchestrating an essay contest called "Character Commitment." Over 150 junior high students submitted stories about "Acts of Character" they witnessed in their school. Winners were given tickets to Miss Minnesota and also cash prizes. In addition to the essay contest, I helped pass the first Character Education Bill that provided extra funding to schools who implemented character education in the classroom. It was a wonderful year of speaking in schools, lobbying at the Minnesota State Capitol, and representing South Central Minnesota. I was honored to be 1st runner-up at Miss Minnesota in 2004.

Jennifer was first runner up to Miss Minnesota as Miss South Central.  Jennifer also held the title of Miss Twin Cities 2003 when she was fourth runner up to Miss Minnesota, and Miss Coon Rapids 2005 where she placed 3rd runner up at Miss Minnesota.
