| Miss South Central 2009
About Miss South Central 2009:
Aja
is a 20 year old Music Performance Major at the University of Minnesota
in Minneapolis. She has studied the violin since the age of four. After
spending a lifetime with music realized that it has helped her to
develop intellectually and emotionally and most importantly music has
created the foundation for strong friendships in her life.
This
was the inspiration for her platform, "Enriching Lives through Music."
During her year as Miss South Central Aja wants to support public
school music education programs through benefit concerts and recitals
that the students themselves would perform in. Music is such an amazing
subject for students because they can learn something in a classroom,
study it on their own, and then showcase it in an entertaining way! The
same cannot be said for math or history. (Science can be kind of cool
to watch, but not as cool as music!).
In addition to helping
public schools with their music programs Aja wants to enrich the lives
of others by performing music for them. Beginning at the age of 5 Aja
has performed for PALS, a group for developmentally disabled adults.
They remember her every year and thoroughly enjoy listening to her
play. She wants to perform for them as well as nursing home and
hospital residents.
Outside of music and pageants Aja enjoys
cooking (and watching Giada de Laurentiis on the Food Network),
shopping, reading, watching Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and watching
live theater.
